The emo subculture has a great sense of fashion gothic and punk subcultures. It is fairly safe to consider emo to be a mesh of the two subcultures with a little sensitivity. Despite the mixture of the two subcultures is more evident in women, you can also see subtle clues in the way men dress emo.

Emos wear a lot of black. This was most evident when the style began to emerge several years ago.
